Wheel Backspacing, Offset, and Tire Sizing. Updated 04/20/08

Would Rota P45F's +35 work on our cars?

 

18x8 +35 or +45 offset ...

 

Guys I need some of your advice in what tire size should I go with 18x7.5 +45offset. Should I get 225/40/R18 or 235/40/R18 my ride is lowered with tein S-Tech Thanks!

ok so while i have been gone i went and got my lancer lowered....with the tein s-tech springs....
and then i swapped out wheels...at first it was to see what fit...but they looked so good i kept them on....
i got galant ralliart wheels...235 45 18 with the 2.1/1.9 drop...its only about a finger of gap, if even that

 

surprisingly not many...the usual drive slow over speedbumps.....and a little rubbing when i turn from lock to lock....i've maybe lost an 1/8 of my turn radius, but i rarely turn that tight except when i need to get out the drive way lol........so all in all i think i made a great choice..gonn do the galant with the s tech springs and put 19's

 

so question i have a es so i can fit all the ones in red on my rims

 

see i got the stock 205/60/16 and i need new ones and there is a got that got 4 tires for 70$ and i need to know what all sizeing will fit on the es

 

Is it possible that 19x8.5 +38 or +45 offset would fit in a Lancer GTS without rubbing issue?

 

Im having the same problem...i got some 19" rims with a +35 offset...19x8 with offset of +35....the tires im thinking on are some hankook ventus v12....225/40 r19...are they going to rub if i drop the car in the front and rear?

 

Yup. There's a great site http://www.willtheyfit.com/, and you can use that to figure out how your stats compare to the OEM. You can plug in 225/45/18 18x8 for the stock size and then your 225/40/19 19x9 for the new tire. I looked over the diagram (not 100% accurate) but it does show major rub on the strut side. Even with that offset. In order to get that setup to work (which I know is possible if I've seen a Civic on 20's) you can roll and pull the fenders. A shop that does it without messing up the paint is def a good body shop. I'd shop around and ask.

Personally though only reason I didn't go with 19's is because they are a little too big and harder to fit on the cars especially if you drop them. I'm going to get coils first, then drop the car, then make up my wheel/tire combo from there.

 

To anyone who's reading this and wants to know about sizing. Here's the deal.

1. You can make ANY WHEEL COMBINATION FIT! You just have to be prepared to dish out money to make it work. The bigger the wheel, the more it'll cost to fit under there.

2. Those of you that don't know what the numbers mean: 205/40/18
205 is the width from one end to the other
40 is aspect ration aka 40% of 205
18 is the size of the tire.

3. Offset is VERY IMPORTANT when selecting your rims. Higher the offset, the more tucked in the wheel will be. The lower the offset, the further out it will stick. IE: You can run 2 sets of 225/45/18s one is 18x8 with a +45 offset and one with a +35 offset. The one with the lower offset will stick out more from your car. Compare your offset of the new wheels to your OEM.

4. What will fit? 18x8 and 18x8.5? Simple. Wider the wheel aka 8.5" vs 8" is just going to accomodate a wider wheel. For our 8G Lancers, 8" will be a safe bet without rolling the fenders. Any larger and you'll start rolling fenders, pulling fenders, cutting liners material, etc.

If you've ever looked up the term "hellaflush" that's exactly what these guys do. Wide wheels (8.5" minimum) with really low offsets (+25 and such) and stretch their tires. Granted if you don't mind giving up cushioning and messing up your rims for the looks. Oh and grinding up EVERYTHING under the car when you slam it...go for it!
