I Got this thing coming in the mail for my 08 GTS with CVT. I have already installed a Takida intake and i'm wondering if the ECU is good to go out of the box for my intake or if i have to screw around with it. What i'm really wondering is if this thing is "plug and play"?
Not too sure about the 8gens....I have heard mixed emotions about that thing. Some members swear by it, and others have had nothing but hassles. If you do have any problems or questions, ask BrianRRM....They are a supporting vendor here, and can answer all your questions.
It's plug and play. I has a base map for tuning. You don't have to screw with it at all. It really comes together if you have a lot of breather mods. Intake, exhaust, header, straight pipe, ported throttle body, etc. etc. It's good to go. Use a soldering iron to get the best results.
Thanks, i'm fairly new to car mods and just want to improve performance a little bit without tanking my car. If this is relatively straight forward then i think i'll be alright.
Only thing I can tell you is don't buy it used. Buy it straight from RRM. Otherwise they charge a $60 fee for reflashing the used one. For us 7G lancers our ecu is on the inside where as your ecu I believe is in the engine cabin. It will be much easier to install than ours was.
Hate to bring up an old thread...but I am trying to buy a used RRM Piggyback ECU for an Auto 02-06 Lancer...Does it need to be reflashed if it was already on the same kind of car I have? I cannot see paying $400 for this thing...Also The seller doesnt have the software with it....Do I need this? He also said RRM said it will work on any 02-06 Auto Lancer and doesn't need to be reflashed.
Ask him what car he is driving? If he has an 02-03 your set. But if he has a 04-06 you would need a reflash. The way the fuel is set is different. You can get a reflash from rrm for $60 and you can get the cd from rrm for $50. If he is selling it for $100 then go for it but if its $200 or more you might as well buy the thing new. The cd is there for if you want to play with the maps and adjust to your vehicles specs.
Yea he is asking $200. It was on a 2003 Lancer ES auto just like mine so it should be good to go. I offered him $150, I really don't want to pay $400 for a new one. But I have heard this gives more power then any bolt on so I'm willing to try it out.
It doesnt give more power than any bolt-on. It makes your current ecu not read its map and places a temp map on the ecu for all of your current bolt ons. Its a beginners tune. So lets say you have a ported intake manifold, ported throttle body, exhaust, intake, ported head. That will get you about 10 hp at the crank which is the equivalent to 7-8 hp at the wheels. This will make that 10 hp at the crank really be 9-10 hp at the wheels. Due to It not being tuned and you just tossing bolt ons on your car your car may actually loose some whp. But when it gets tuned you will get back what you lost plus get what your supposed to have. And with the cd you can change the mapping around a little bit for the bolt-ons you have. It just brings all your current mods together with a base tune.
Makes sense. Have you used the program? is it very beginner friendly? I don't know how comfortable I would be messing with the tune.
eeehhh. I never took the time to learn it. When you buy the software you get the instructions to go with it. It is very intimidating at first since you wont know what everything is.
