Not really sure. These things measure just under 2.5 inches...i guess to make a tight fit on a 2.5 inch O.D. pipe. You may be able to collapse it...

I really wouldn't recommend running a filter-less system (if that's what you mean). Even a single hair across the sensor will give you problems....
