9mm lack the power of the 45
if you have to use it that could mean 2 things, your M4 fail you when you need it the most or the enemy is right on your face.

9mm is all I get, so be glad you at least have an M4 to rely on. In the unfortunate event that my plane goes down, guess what? I've now just joined the infantry. Time to grab the first battlefield pickup I can get my ejection seat-pull'n hands on. I mean, don't get me wrong, the M9 isn't half bad, but it's no match for 7.62 or some of the other less-than-friendly calibers out there.

you know i carry the m4 and 9mm everyday and to be honest the 9mm is a POS, but it is better than nothing. still i rather have the .45 but PACAF doest want to fund us. sad

I wish the DoD would switch us to the new Springfield XDM 45. I have an XD 45 as my personal carry, but the new XDM is considerably better. But my opinion doesn't really matter in this case now does it.

You're right about the M9 tho. It is pretty much a last resort. I believe the DoD went with it because it has the decaulker (sp) mechanism which made it "safer" for people just to be carrying around as a sidearm (primarily an issue with Military Police and Security Forces). Oh well, I've heard that the sidearm contract is being reevaluated.
