Im about to buy a new lancer, I cannot decide on which one to get. I plan on getting aftermarket rims/tires, and an aftermarket sound system right away. So the only thing that is holding me back from purchasing the es is the damn rear drum brakes. Will they look good with rims? Can you paint them. How much would it be to get disk brakes for the rear?
i understand the GTS is better, but it just seems like wasted money when im going to go aftermarket on all the features it has over the es (besides brakes which i may have to now)
its all a preference ... if you truly want to go aftermarket with everything, then go es and have fun. but me, i got the gts because of the navi and also because it looks the best out of all them stock. and i don't know about everyone else, but i don't have that much money quite yet to start customizing. ... yet anyway
the ES isnt so bad. but i love my GTS. my gts doesnt have the sun&sound package and the navigation package. i believe upgrading from ES to GTS is about $30+ extra a month. so it isnt so bad.
 Brakes are disk on the es!!! then i was thinking to my self...well why not just go to the base model.... NO AC!!!!!! haha right. So I ordered a Black ES with spoiler. Should be in by the end of the week. Anyone got a pref for aftermarket subs (kicker ect...). Im going to get subs first until i blow stock speakers then ill get aftermarket.
Personally, I drove both the ES and the GTS and it was two different worlds. I know its the same engine, same power, etc. But the GTS just felt way better, obviously the suspension is alot better. And to go from a ES to a GTS isn't that much more money. It just makes sense to get the GTS. Trust me, I went back and forth, but for the suspension, wheels, spoiler, fog lights, etc for only 2k more on the GTS, no brainer to me.
Go with Elemental Designs.... give them a call and tell them Jason Nickel sent you. They will take care of you...
I have the ES with rear discs. Only reason I got the ES was there were no 5-speed GTS at the dealership. Although I would have gotten the GTS only if it was a 5speed.
i say get the gts. coming from a guy with an es, i want the fog lights th side sills. pretty much everything except the spoiler. but the dealership let me have have the es for 15000 so im not complaining
I agree with what you say to a certain point. He did say he wants to go with Aftermarket parts. I am guessing in a couple months their will be some really hot looking addons for the lancers as far as lip kits go. Maybe some pretty attractive side skirts 2? Anyways What I am trying to say is, if you are planning on getting rid of the stock shit anyways, just do what you think you want to and go with the ES. GTS does come with better suspension from the start so thats probably the most important advantage as far as performance goes.
I have an ES and im fine with it. Although i would have rather gotten a GTS but they didnt have any at my dealer, but i also got mine for 15k so im happy. I would go with an ES and put in all those aftermarket parts. but im still in highschool and poor. so thats just me =]
Ok i am a couple of days away from buying my lancer hopefully by the end of the week. im getting the GTS for sure the black on black one, the only thing is it doesnt have any options in it like no navi or sun and sound package for $18,110 and when i looked at the ES it had the sun and sound package for the same price $18,110. im leaning towards the GTS more cuz it just looks badass with the 18" low pros on it and the big spoiler and the black interior after some tint and either 18" or 19" black rims with the chrome lip the car will look sick. on the other hand i can get the ES and have a kick ass sound system then again i could just put 1 in the GTS.(how come i just cant be rich so i could buy both lol)
