Installed DCSports front strut bar on an ES

    I finally bought and installed a front strut bar for my 08 Lancer ES. Availablity and price on these are finally decent. Unfortunately, only the steel strut bar is available so it is on the heavy side compared to other strut bars out there but the weight reflects its strength. Those who are not familiar with it and other strut bar designs out there(there are many designs) the DCSports strur bar is a one piece design with no adjustability other than a removable center bracket on the bar itself for mounting on the EVOs and RallyArt models which have a 3rd attatchment point on ther firewall. This removable bracket has small slots to allow some adjustment to line up correctly. No where else does the bar have any adjustment. It is a drop in place and tighten down design. Brilliant!! On the DCSports bar, there are 2 beefy bolts that allow user to easliy remove this bracket for use on the Lancer models which do NOT have the firewall 3rd attatchment point..ie the Base lancer, ES model, GT/GTS,and the SE non turbo AWD lancer in the states(model names differ per country). Even the sportback models too. So, with the removable center firewall bracket there is no grinding off that bracket or having a strut bar with an unhooked bracket looking like it was not installed properly. Those know what I'm talking about if you took an EVO strut bar(stock bar) and put it on your non turbo model you wind up with a large bracket dead center of the strut bar 3 inches away from firewall attatched to nothing.
    I have a K@N Typhoon intake kit which has the air filter sit inside a supplied air box with large rubber seal that seals to underside of hood when shut. The DCSports strut bar does smush the rubber seal so I am going to trim away a little section the size of strut bar diamater to allow the bar to actually not interfere with the sealing of the rubber gasket to hood. I will post up pics before the trimming of that rubber gasket and after. I would assume any aftermarket short ram intake that comes with an airfilter box like the Typhoon by K@N will need to be trimmed if you want it to be a proper fit and not just a lazy install. Your choice obviously and I am anal and will take the 5 minutes to trim the airbox rubber seal.
    The DCSports strut bar comes with spacers for install on NON Turbo Lancers like my ES that go under the strut bar over mounting studs so it sits properly and not on the welds and silicone around the strut studs. You can feel the bar want to wobble if you lay it in place without the supplied spacers put in place so DC made sure it fits correctly, level and ridgid. Without those spacers the strut bar stud mounting brackets would bend and be unlevel causing a shitty fit.
    I will try and fabricate a bracket on the firewall to actaully use the center supplied 3rd mounting point option the EVOs and RallyArt have. Triangulating the mounting of strut bar will indeed add a tiny bit more stiffness. Noticeable of a difference I don't know but if the EVOs use it and if I can make it work I will do it too. That's why i almost bought the bar from RRM but I did not like the single stud mounting on each side. the cheap EBAY bars are horrible stiffness and even the expensive whiteline and Cusco bars use/have a 3pc design and one solid bar is better than multiple pcs bolted together. I have , on previous cars, used both whiteline(all whiteline products rust badly under their powder coating especially their sway bars and strut bar stud brackets) and cusco uses the 3 pc design allowing some movement and both companies, which make fantastic performing products that ACTUALLY WORK, I preferred the DCSports 1 pc design and look. I wish DCSports made their Titanium front strut bar for our cars. Adding 1.5lbs to top of engine comapred to the carbon steel's 8.5 lbs is big in my opinion.
    Next is the underside front brace to box everything together. Trying to decide on who's 4pt underbrace I like best still. The areas where that brace gets bolted down needs a slash cut in the aluminum to clear ceratin surrounding stock components. Many of the underbraces don't have the slash cut. Anybody using one post up some pics please installed for me.
