Pros and cons of lowering my car

right now my front end is lowered, i still have to lower the rear end. i have a 2012 Lancer GT and i have no issues with power steering. it rides nicely, but i still gotta lower the rear. as far as snow, im not sure, my front end is still a ways off the ground.

 

I don't know who told you about the PS issues...but I have never had any issues with it on any vehicle that I have driven that has been lowered. As for snow....I wouldn't worry about it unless you drive on roads that have a foot of snow and never get plowed or salted....

 

Yea that power steering thing seems to be false in my experience. Im on megan coils and im about 5 inches off the ground. I dont really have snow in va but i dont have too much trouble with that either. If you get coils make sure you get an alignment. If you get springs then its not necessary.

idk, i paid 180 for my springs and doin the job myself. its easy without usin and impact wrench, it took me an hour to figure it out how to do without one. but once i got it figured it took me about 30 min to do one spring by myself. it would be much faster with an impact gun.

 

$650 seems a bit steep to me. Hell for $200 more you can get coils and install it yourself. Im think it should be about $200 for the springs and between $150 - $200 to get them installed and if you want the alignment then another $80 - $90. There is a shop in ct that one of our members used to work there. I forgot the name of the shop. They sell this hide-a-way liscense plate holder.

PS issues? Never heard of em. $650 is very steep for spring. Figure 3 hours for springs removed and installed, ehh $150 right there, then another $75-$100 for exhaust installed. So now you're up $225-$250. I never paid more than $200 for my springs installed AND aligned.

Honestly you can do it yourself if you feel up to it, it's easy to do and you can borrow a spring compressor from Auto Zone for $50

 

I would highly recommend saying no to the shop...thats a lot to do a spring swap. When I had my shop open, If the customer supplied the springs, installation was a flat 200 bucks. and thats based on my 65.00/hr labor rate. If they purchased a set from me, it would be the price of the springs + labor @50.00/hr. And doing a spring swap should not take more than 2.5-3 hours....

As for exhaust, I think I paid 150 for my setup....and its a custom catback. All the bends, hangers, resonator put on, muffler welded, hangers welded, and thats on all 2.5" stainless piping.

 

I'm thinking of having the dealership do mine, just because i don't have any of my tools and supplies here...

also...anyone happen know of any exhaust shops near the p-cola area that would be good to go to?

 

i finished my springs and i can tell you right now. there is absolutley no power steering issues, im gonna need to get a front alignment done, but other than that. it rides very nicely.

 

Good deal. Wait to get the alignment until the springs have had time to settle...usually 250 miles or so is good. If you do it right after they get put on, the settling could kill the alignment.

 

yea, somewhere i read about a week should be good, then get the alignment.

My lancer is on Monroe OEMSpectrum's on the front with Tein S techs, and KYB GR2s on the rear with S techs. Its bouncy only because I have OEM struts on. Other than that, I have normal clunking and noise. I love the car being lowered. Will never own another car and leave it stock height.
