What type of fuel does my stock 2.0 require? There is no manual, dealership doesn't know anything and I've searched this forum to no avail.

I'm assuming it's going to be 89 but just wanna make sure.

Whatever your choices are. The middle one. I think its all in all. 87,89,93. I use 89 all the time. Or whatever the middle one is. 87 and 93 go out too fast for me.

Well, in Utah and most places out west where I live, we have 85 (Regular), 87,88,89 (Mid-Grade) and 91 (Premium). Soooo yeah. We don't have 93 lol. I just wanna take care of this car and not have it knock when going up the canyons or in stop and go city traffic on Bangeter at 1715 :)

91 is indeed the best but it burns waay too quickly. 89 seems to be the best option for me in my 03 Lancer. Has 82.5k miles on it. 87 is the only one I can say do not use. It will age your engine faster.

I always use the middle grade, just because it doesn't burn up too fast and it gives just enough kick in the engine for light engine mods.

Yes, but mid-grade ranges from 87 to 89. So simply stating "mid-grade" doesn't specify what octane is being used.

So I filled up at a Smiths Fuel Center which derives from PhillipsConoco fuel. I used 88 octane at $2.98 and put in 11 gallons to come to a total of about $32.78. This was after driving for 20 miles after the low fuel light came on and I filled it completely full. I will post the mileage intervals with regards to 4/4, 3/4 and so on. I took a measurement the first time I drove the vehicle before I changed the 2 spark plugs. It was raining so the AC was minimally used during this testing period.

    75% = 118
    50% = 200
    25% = 300 or so.
    8% = 354 <------Low Fuel Light

I used the same octane of fuel (88) from the same fuel station for this test. I used 10.500 gallons for that test done when I first got the car. 354/10.500 = 33.71. I rounded down to 32 just to be on the safe side. Who shares similar/better fuel economy? I consider this extremely good considering the spark plugs were old, had the cylinder misfire, was out of alignment and non-balanced tires, not to mention unequalized or what would be otherwise considered as low pressure in the tires.

I always run 93 from the station right around the corner from me. They still have the 100% gasoline....none of that ethanol blend crap. With all that has been modded on my R/A, I'm getting roughly 245-260 per 12 gallons.....

I have a 14 gallon tank. Return fuel system. I can go 378 miles max before I stop. City/highway blend. Mostly highway. If Im on a trip and it all highway I get 420 miles to the tank. If I am gunning it all over the place I get around 320 miles. Intake and RRM exhaust are the only mods I have. I just got new ngk spark plugs and its the same mileage give or take 5 miles. If you aren't an 02-03 lancer you guys have a spare tank. It's 1 gallon I believe. So you guys have 13-14 gallon tank total as well. And I always try to run 89 as it last the longest for me no matter what I do.

Finished my tank! Trip to Poke-a-Fellow will do that. The following test results were used with AC at fan level 1, AC set to setting directly above "Max AC" and recirculation was used as well.

    75% = 130
    50% = 210
    25% = 315
    8% = 352

Most speeds averaged about 85 MPH. During the last 40% of my fuel, I was doing sprints of 95-100. Highest I could get it to go was about 110. Considering after all was said and done, I averaged 32.50 MPG. This was with about 11 gallons of fuel. If I didn't make those sprints and could stick to 80 MPH, I would probably be a lot better off.

ok so here is how i understand the whole fule concept but I could be having a retard moment the higher the octane the hotter it burns which in turn means to me that it is cleaner and more efficient so what i have always done with any car i have owned is if I am planning on driving alot of stop and go traffic at low speed with alot of idling i use the high or mid grade just cause the engine isnt really getting used as hard but on the highway i use the low grade stuff now that being said if you want octane you can buy the octane boost stuff to add to your fuel but i never have higher octane may get you a little more mileage but it may not be enuf to warrant the difference
