Hey guys, Well here's my dilemma. I found a great deal on some 18" tenzo dc-5 v2 wheels but im unsure if i wanna get them b/c the guy selling them painted them flat black with only one coat of paint. Theyre originally gunmetal, which i really like, and id like to have that color not the flat black. So my ? is whats the best way to remove the one coat of flat black paint without ruining the original paint underneath. I called and talked to someone from customer service at paintremover.com and the guy suggested using easy off oven cleaner to remove just the one coat saying that theyre products may ruin the paint underneath b/c its too strong. Do you guys have any input ideas on how to remove just the one coat without damaging the original paint underneath??? Im prob gonna try the easy off if i do get them but just wanna see if you guys got any better suggestions. Thanks in advance
Well, You could try some Purple Power cleaner. The question is...did he scuff up the original surface to help the paint adhere? If he did, you might as well sand it off and respray them the color you want.
At work we just use alcohol and gets paint off pretty well sometimes. As long as the paint isn't scuffed up underneath, I think you might even be able to use no. 12 or something like it.
thanks ill keep that in mind well still not sure if im gonna buy them b/c one of the wheels has a piece broken off b/c he hit a curb avoiding an accident. I emailed a wheel repair company by me to see if they can repair it, if they can ill still buy them b/c like i said he's selling them real cheap
The wheel repair shop just told me its not repairable so I'm gonna pass on the wheels. Thanks for all the help anyways guys --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=40.841402,-74.659856
