So I am going to be heading down to the shop next week or so to get my new exhaust system. And it's going to be the same one from the video I showed you guys. HKS Hi-Power Catback Exhaust. They got 2 different sizes for the exhaust, but I don't know what's what. So if any one here has any idea on this, I would like input on which is the better one to get. (Based on Performance & Sound). If you don't know which video I'm talking about, here's the link http://youtube.com/watch?v=80lc6reWEnI and NO, it's not set up with a turbo! It's already been cleared. It's a 5-spd. Lancer DE. No Mods. Just the exhaust A: 170mm Shell Tip - 120mm Tip Diameter - 75mm Piping Diameter -- OR -- B: 130mm Shell Tip - 96mm Tip Diameter - 60mm Piping Diameter
If you plan on turbo charging in the future go with the 75mm piping, if you plan to stay NA than do the 60mm
if you go too big in diameter and stay NA, then you will lose too much backpressure and some low end power
i have an sp2 i feel as if its perfect doesnt look like a giant cannon and it has a stock looking tip its just a tad bit bigger
how big of a difference does piping make? If its for air pressure etc... then if you get a turbo a smaller pipe would be more pressure no? or is the turbo too much for that size of piping? (referring to angryGTS' comments)
exhaust size has been discussed before.2.5 inch exhaust would be the biggest youd want to go on NA,every aftermarket exhaust you see is 2.5.and even with the RRM turbo this would be good size since its looking like a low boost kit, some one on here said if you start uping the boost for turbo more than 10psi,then youd want to go with 3 inch.
God I wish the term backpressure could be deleted from people's vocabulary. Backpressure is a very bad thing, you do not want it, however you do need to maintain exhaust gas velocity, which you'd lose with piping that's too big, they are totally different things.
